High Cholesterol and Keratitis – Double Whammy!

Good things come in pairs. Bad things come in pairs too!
A week after I found out about my high cholesterol, I visited an eye specialist as I have been having blurry vision for the last 3 weeks on my right eye. I previously increased my right eye’s power and there was no improvement. It was still blurry.
I found out that my right eye’s power was way over. I thought that was it until the specialist ran a series of tests and diagnosed Acanthamoeba Keratitis due to prolonged use of contact lenses.
“Contact lenses should be used maximum 10 hours per day”, she said. I use them an average of 12 hours daily. Guilty.
I’m off contact lenses for a month and have to drop 2 solutions into my right eye regularly, 6 times and 4 times a day respectively – Maxidex and Vigamox.
On a positive note, keratitis can be cured and it should take a month to do so, then I need to force myself to follow the 10-hour daily use rule.
I started wearing contact lenses in 2008 and I allowed my discipline to wean over the years. This is a eye-opening reminder to be habituated again.
